Join us for an immersive journey into American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture at our ASL & Deaf Study Group. This program is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience for college-aged individuals interested in learning ASL and gaining insights into Deaf culture.

Program Schedule:

  • First Portion: Viewing of Dr. Bill Vicar's ASL Video Lessons
    • Engage in structured learning by watching educational ASL video lessons curated by Dr. Bill Vicar, a renowned expert in ASL instruction.
  • Second Portion: Practice and Review
    • Dive deeper into the language and culture by participating in interactive practice sessions.
    • Review key concepts, vocabulary, and grammar learned from the video lessons.
    • Engage in group activities and discussions to reinforce learning and promote cultural understanding.

Additional Information:

  • This study group follows a "voice-off/hands-only" approach, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in the visual language of ASL and the nuances of Deaf culture.
  • Participants are encouraged to communicate solely through sign language or written word/text during the session to enhance their linguistic and cultural competency.
  • No prior experience with ASL is required. Beginners and intermediate learners are welcome.
  • This program is tailored for college-aged individuals, but learners of high school age or up are welcome to attend.
